The Unwanted Guests play their final show (hopefully) at the " Mapleleaf Lounge" in Sydney on New Years Eve 2000..or would that be 2001. it was Dec 31 2000...Anyway, due to a lack of having nothing to do for New Years, Valerie Macmillan suggests that a group of people rent the lounge for the night. THis results in Ian Chiasson to suggest that The Unwanted Guests play their final show the same night. The show costed(i don;t think thats a word) 2 dollars for two Ug sets. The MapleLeaf was packed,and resulted in lots of old familiar faces...This also caused ug to be very drunk and make fools out of themselves, but all in the name of fun. We had an offer by some strange man to play at the Ecma's the following year. This would prove to be a momentous occasion for the Ug posse due to the fact of the return of the orginal bass master Mike Edwards to share the stage with newer bass master Rory Macdonald. ( they spit up the set betweend them). Also a surprise performance by Ug's third drummer Danny Sparrow. Although I don't think he even remebers. All in all one of my Fav Ug experiences..

Marilyn's Vitamins (Raw Energy Records) came to town to celebrate the 4th of July w/ the Vicious Bastards, Blindside, and The Unwanted Guests. The show barely broke even and only about 80 kids showed up. I had to ask for donations during the show so i'd have enough to pay the band, the hall and the sound guy. Total disaster from a monetary point of view, but all the bands played amazing sets especially Marilyn's Vitamins and The Unwanted Guests. This is the only show I've done where i was somewhat proud of the gig poster I made (Captain America leaping through the air saying 'i'd rather be flag-burning').

venue=Ski Ben Eoin This was Inspired's first real show, we played with Johnny Rocket and the Space Cadets, and the A-team. The P.A. was quite shitty, but thankfully Mike Gillespie was able to hook it up properly. We played first and played a few originals and quite a number of covers (a UG's moonshine and Tilted's day by day to name two). the A-team played next and mostly played minor threat covers. I don't think Blard was in the band at this point. Lachie and I helped out Nolan on a few of the vocals. Johnny Rocket and the Space Cadets played last and played with a really odd line-up of Andrew, Albert and Johnny. I can't remember anything about their set, but I can remember being really impressed with how nice they all were. Everyone got paid and I think to this date it mark only the third time a band i was in got paid.

This was an outdoor concert on the Goverment Wharf in Sydney put on by Crack! Industries right before Canada Day or Action Week i'm not sure which. Five bands played The Red Noise, Tilted, Rakadko, Q, and Mastadon Ridge. Some recollections of that show include: -Lachie in Kiss makeup, -M.J. and Harry trying hard not to curse on stage. -Red Noise just being grrreat. hmmm Devon Strang of Red Noise and presently Slowcoaster fame, filling in for Bruce Musgrave in Rakadko because Bruce had broke his collarbone. -Q missing Jeff Gracie who had gone missing in New Hampshire while traveling to Another Roadside Attraction. -Jay Smith presently of Rock Ranger playing rhythm guitar for Mastadon Ridge for one song. -Mike Vernon telling everyone politely to "go the fuck home" at 11pm. (editor's note: must not forget the "firework" display at the end of it either)

Ok... I believe this was in 95, but it may have been in 96. I can't really remember, but I found an old poster of this show. the line up was Soup Mastadon Ridge 77 Impala special ...I remember the show being awesome, and every band blowing my mind.

The first time any band i was in played in any incarnation was at this famine. I believe Kristen Rudderham had something to do with the organization.
The band was me (guitar/vocs), jason macdonald (vocs), nathan macdonald (drums), sean macgillivray (guitar). Josh Garland was on technical support. We played lithium, seasons in the abyss, and alive. It was bad.
Shortly after, the sydney river crew (pre smiling unichs/mastadon/shaft) came in and totally showed us up.
This is where the sydney crowd met charlie colter, mike hawco, and carter chaisson.
Couples included jason and erica, brad and marina, keough and schrooms.

Ummmmm I don't know what to say about this one since Darryl has talked a great deal about the event istelf....Ummm let me talk about the orginization of the first Gobblefest. At the time I had become manager of CAPR radio at the University College of Cape Breton and I was looking for fundraising ideas for the station and was involved with one schelphia Macphail (shelly Macphail) who had connections with Halifax scene and Murder Records/ Cinnamon Toast and she was telling me about this great thing thatwas happening in Halifax called the Pop Explosion and how this would be great for the Sydney Scene and the radio station- it would be great as a fundraiser and a super cool way to unite the scene and promote the music. So I said what the hell and started to mess around with the idea of how to organize it...so that summer; starting in May- I started floating the idea to an Organizing committee of people who I thought might want to get involved; These people included my cousin Reggie' Darryl Mackinnon; Chrisanna Doyle; Alfred Remo; Chrystal Boudreau; Ian Daye; Melanie Macinnis; John Hussey; Shelly Macphail; Ian K. Macleod; and various other members of the staff. Our first official meeting was held in early June....I had an idea of who might be able to handle what and at the meeting we basically decided what the framework of the festival was to be and what it was to be about; which I'm happy to say it stillremains to be to this day the promotion of local music. For the next three months we worked hard at securing the venue(cHRYSTAL Boudreau)-Steel workers Hal; getting sound- Railroad studios- thanks Malcolm; I think Chrisanna had something to do with this; concessions; organizing security. etc and genuinely being meticulous about planning- something which is my trademark. You've got to remember at that time nothing youth oriented had ever been attempted by young people themselves and most people didn't think we could do it. After 4and a half months of organizing and planning the day came. Chrisanna was our stage manager and in complete control of the stage. I had a security team set up- damn I can't remember who was in charge of that; Darryl Alfred and Ian were runners and we had enouph volunteers in shifts to work the whole concert- I have always beleived in having more people than needed; but the real work was done by Chrystal Boudreau; Alfred; Ian; Darryl; myself; Reggie;Chrissanna who stayed from start to finish as well as Malcolm MacMillon who did sound for the whole day and collapsed right after the last band-a little known fact. Gobblefest One did not just happen- it took 4and a half months of hard work and dedication to pull it off under sometimes very difficult situations(see Musicians association post). I think everyone should know about how hard it was then; it was brand new; it was exciting and it was worth it!!!!!!
